AMELIA YARNAVICK

Class of 1922

Amelia Yarnavick, born about 1901-1902, was the daughter of Peter Yarnavick (and various surname spellings) who was not easily found in census records. He and his wife, Mary, were Austrian-Croatians, who immigrated in the 1890s. In 1910, the family (spelled Yarnevics) lived in Brownstown, Cambria County, with their children, Peter, Emily [Amelia], Katherine, Anthony, Frank, Mary and Slava (daughter). The father was a coal miner.

Slava in the 1910 census is believed to be Louise/Louisa, a graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in the class of 1929.

The family - spelled Yanovich - is found in the 1920 census with children, Peter, Anthony, Frank, Mary, Louisa, Anna, Sophia and Joseph. In 1920, Amelia would have been in nursing school in Pittsburgh.

Amelia married Paul Enoch Omundson about 1926, and they were residing in Indiana, Marion County, Indiana at the time of the 1930 Federal Census. She was 32 and indicated she had married at age 28. Paul was a shoe salesman and they had a daughter, Mary A., almost 3, and a son, Charles J., age 3 months. Paul was also born in Pennsylvania.

By 1935, the family was living in Nevada, Missouri, and then moved to Nueces County, Texas before the 1940 census. Paul was working as a carpenter and building contractor.

Amelia died March 19, 1956, and Paul died February 16, 1958.
