At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, "Ina Mae Wolfe," 20, was a nurse, residing at the St. Francis Hospital Nurses' Home. The record indicates that she was born in Pennsylvania but had been living in Captina, Marshall County, West Virginia in 1935.
According to her marriage record, Iona Mae was the daughter of James H. Wolfe and Rertie (Bertie) Shepherd, both born in "Rechley," West Virginia, which is possibly Beckley. Iona, born January 1, 1921, was also stated as born in Beckley. However, the marriage of James H. Wolfe, 40, and Bertie Shepherd, 30, on September 10, 1914, occurred in Marshall County, West Virginia. Their marriage record indicates they were born in Marshall County and were residents of Captina in Marshall County.
On April 10, 1942, Iona Mae married Robert Brodengeyer, a craneman, born in Millvale, Allegheny County, and the son of Lincoln and Larretta (Spitzner) Brodengeyer.
Robert L. Brodengeyer, born November 22, 1914, died May 23, 1985. He is buried at Graysville Cemetery, Marshall County, West Virginia. Robert served as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II.
OBITUARY--- Iona "Babe" Wolfe Brodengeyer of Moundsville, WV, died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Moundview Health Care Center, Moundsville, WV. - She was born January 1, 1920, in Graysville, WV, a daughter of the James and Bertie Shepherd Wolfe. - She was a retired Registered Nurse from Reynolds Memorial Hospital; a member of the Moundsville County Club for over 30 years; Graysville United Methodist Church; lifelong resident of Marshall County; graduated from Moundsville High School and St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. - In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Brodengeyer; a son, James Brodengeyer; an infant brother, Edward Wolfe; three sisters, Arlene Yoho, June Baer, Mary Louise Gatts; and a granddaughter, Jodie Cottles. - Survivors include a daughter, Lynne B. (Tom) Daines of Cornelia, GA; two grandchildren, Dr. James G. (Alexandria) Snyder of Norfolk, VA, Amy Jo (John) Koleno of Aldie, VA; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Yankosky of Nutter Fort, WV; numerous nieces and nephews. - Family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, with Rev. SISTER'S OBITUARY--- Gatts, Mary Louise Wolfe, age 96 of Proctor, WV, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Liza's Place, Wheeling. - She was born September 12, 1915 in Moundsville the daughter of the late James and Bertie Shepherd Wolfe. - Mary was a retired teacher from Marshall County Schools where she started teaching in a one room school house and retired from McNinch School. She was a member of the Graysville United Methodist Church. - In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Lloyd "Jack" Gatts; two sisters: June Baer and Arlene Yoho and an infant brother: Edward Wolfe. - Survivors include one daughter: Lois (Edward) Zwolensky of Moundsville; one son: Richard Gatts of Proctor; three grandchildren: Dr. Brett (Cindy) Zwolensky of Bridgeport, WV, Richard J. Gatts of Proctor and Nicole Gatts of Pleasant Valley; two sisters: Iona Brodengeyer of Wheeling and Frances Yankosky of Clarksburg, WV and several dearly loved nieces and nephews. - The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:30pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville. - Interment in Graysville Cemetery, Proctor. - Memorial Contributions may be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, RD#5, Box 210, Moundsville, WV 26041.
