OBITUARY - PATRICK WERTZ

PATRICK L. WERTZ - On Wed., Dec. 10, 2003, Patrick L. Wertz, age 42, of Seven Fields, formerly of Penn Hills; beloved husband of Elizabeth Hodgson Wertz; adoring father of Patrick F., Ashley Marie and the late Amanda Elizabeth Wertz; brother of Charles Michael Wertz; son-in-law of William and Helen Hodgson; brother-in-law of Patty and Carl Mackiewicz and Charles Hodgson; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; dearest friend of Alan Karelitz; preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Doris M. Wertz. Pat was employed as a Vice President at Highmark Life and Casualty at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. He was an avid biker and participated in the MS 150 for three years to raise money for multiple sclerosis. He also participated in the Race for the Cure, volunteered for The Caring Place and volunteered for 17 years as a paramedic for Wilkins-Churchill Rescue One. He was a baseball and softball coach for the Cranberry Twp. Athletic Assoc. and the Penn Hills Athletic Assoc. Friends received Thursday and Friday 12-4 pm and 6-9 pm at LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., A PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE AWARD FIRM, 460 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue. Funeral Services will be held at the Perry Highway Lutheran Church, 11403 Perry Hwy., Wexford, at 11 am on Saturday. (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH). OBITUARY - LIZ WERTZ EVANS

ELIZABETH (HODGSON) WERTZ EVANS - On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer, Elizabeth (Hodgson) Wertz Evans, age 60, of Cranberry Township. Beloved daughter of William and the late Helen Hodgson; beloved wife of Rulison "Hipp" Evans; former wife of the late Patrick L. Wertz; loving mother of Patrick F. Wertz, Ashley Wertz, Ashley Evans and the late Amanda Elizabeth Wertz; sister of Charles Hodgson and his wife, Sally and Patricia Mackiewicz and husband, Rick; also survived by nephews, Josh, Eric and Cody. Liz graduated from Shaler High School in 1974. She received her Nursing Diploma from the St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in 1980, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Carlow College in 1993, Master in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 1996 and PhD in Organization and Management with a focus on healthcare quality and patient safety from Capella University in 2013. Liz had an extensive professional career in clinical and operational aspects of healthcare. She held management and executive positions in hospitals and physician practices. Liz owned and operated a healthcare consulting firm, PANDA & Associates (www.panda-llc.com). Most recently, she served as the Executive Director, Professional Practice and Programs, for the Oncology Nursing Society. As an accomplished author, Liz had written, co-authored and contributed to several books and published numerous peer-reviewed articles for various professional journals. Liz was a dynamic speaker and educator, having given presentations and training sessions at local, regional, statewide, and national events. Liz volunteered for Highmark's Caring Foundation and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education. She was an avid Steelers fan. Friends received on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 460 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue. Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Perry Highway Lutheran Church, 11403 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA 15090. Interment will follow in the English Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zelienople, PA.
