JOHN R. WATRAL, 57, of Shaler Township, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in his sleep. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Smoller) Watral; loving father of Jessica (Michael) Kenbok and Jameson Watral (Mary Rectenwald); son of Ronald and Ruth Watral; brother of Beth Voyles and the late Denise Miller; also survived by nieces and nephews. John studied at Asbury College, Ky., and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, where he received his registered nursing degree and where he met his wife, Joanne. They were married in 1977 and made their home in Shaler Township. He became involved in the dog show world and started showing Weimaraners in 1981 and achieved an American/Canadian Champion. John had to retire in 1986 due to complications of diabetes. He assisted for several years with the Shaler Cubs Football Program and served three terms on the Shaler Area School Board. John was looking forward to his first grandchild in July. The family would like to thank St. Barnabas for their compassionate care. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Donations may be sent to the Diabetes Association.
