OBITUARY: Carolyn W. Marlovits, devoted wife, loving mother and a woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. A natural caregiver, she is dearly remembered for her kind heart, gentle touch, compassion for others and dedication to her family, friends and church. - Carolyn was born in Windber, PA on May 25, 1938 to the late Charles and Lottie (Hoover) Walsh and was a 1956 graduate of Adams-Summerhill High School in Sidman, PA. During high school, she was head majorette and the school’s first prom queen. After graduation, she entered the St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating in 1959 and began her life-long career as a registered nurse. Selflessly attending to the needs of others and bringing them comfort brought her great joy and satisfaction as she worked in various settings including St. Francis Hospital, Sewickley Valley Pediatrics and as a private duty nurse. A life-long learner, Carolyn was especially proud of earning her Associate’s Degree from Community College of Allegheny County after raising her four children. - As a long-time member of St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley, she was active in Ladies Guild and served as a Eucharistic Minister with a special devotion to taking Holy Communion to those sick in the hospital or in their homes. She enjoyed long walks, gardening and pursued painting as a hobby during her later years. A deeply spiritual woman, Carolyn began practicing yoga in the 1970’s and led yoga sessions during Catholic retreats at St. Paul’s Retreat House. - More than anything, Carolyn loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years John "Jack" Marlovits and her four children Gregory Marlovits (Cathy), Erin Marlovits-Rodgers (Floyd), Shawn Marlovits (Christine Kotarba) and Tara Marlovits. Known as Yaya, she was a loving and cherished grandmother to Max, Sara, and Ella; sister of Marietta Andrykovitch (Andy), Madalyn Heilmann (Mark), Larry Walsh (Giselle), and Pat Walsh (Ellen); also nieces and nephews. - The family will be receiving visitors on Tuesday, April 18 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. followed by Mass at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 19 at St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley.
