HELEN VALLERY

Helen Vallery was born 25 March 1916 and died 13 February 1994.

At the time of the 1920 Federal Census of Spangler, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, Helen Vallery was residing on Bigler Street with her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth, and her siblings, Edward P., Mary J., Joseph A. and Margaret A. Elizabeth Vallery's parents, John and Mary Hobart, were living with them. The father, Thomas Vallery, was a coal miner, and his parents, as well as his wife's, were of Irish descent.

Thomas Vallery died 27 February 1922 and he is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Spangler, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.

The Vallery family was living on East Twelfth Avenue in Homestead in 1930. The mother, Elizabeth, was a widow and her children were Edward P., Joseph, Margaret and Helen. Mrs. Vallery's mother, Mary Hobart, was also in the home.

In 1940, Helen Vallery was residing on Meadow Brook Boulevard, Brentwood, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, with her brother, Edward P., and his wife, Anna M. Helen was employed as a nurse in a private home. The mother, Elizabeth Hobart Vallery, born in 1877, died in 20 March 1940. She is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Spangler, along with daughters, Margaret A. (1913-1933), and Mary J. (1908-1924).

Helen Vallery served as a nurse in the U. S. Army during World War II. She enlisted 1 November 1942 and served until 26 January 1946.
