Thelma E. Turyan was the daughter of John and Emma Francis (Blosl) Turyan. Mrs. Turyan, age 32, died 13 March 1927 after giving birth to daughter, Emma. She is buried at St. Loretta Cemetery.

The father was a roller in the steel mill. John Turyan's second wife was Teresa Schnetzer, whom he married in Brooke County, West Virginia in 1930.

At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, Thelma, 15, was residing with her father, his wife, Thresa, age 37. Other children were John, 20; Alberta, 19; David 17 and Emma 13. A son, Paul, died in 1926 at the age of 2 months.

While Thelma was a student nurse during World War II, she participated in the Army Nurse Cadet Corps.

Thelma's father, John Turyan, of Cologne Street, died 25 December 1951. Her sister, Emma Marie, died in a car crash in 1952. Brother, John W. Turyan, was born 21 May 1919 and he died 16 Feb 1992. Alberta Turyan O'Neill died 30 December 1975 in Pittsburgh.

Thelma Turyan married Dr. Matthew B. Moore on 27 October 1947.

MOORE -- Matthew B., MD, 82, born in Filbert, PA, October 19, 1919 and passed away August 8, 2002. Dr. Moore studied medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and chose the specialty field of obstetrics and gynecology and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 1951 he and his wife, Thelma moved to Tulsa where he established his practice. Dr. Moore became a strong influence at both St. John and St. Francis Hospitals. He served 8 years on the Board of Governors at St. John Medical Center. And afterward on the original Executive Committee of St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Moore was a practicing Physician for 41 years. In 1989 the Tulsa County Medical Society chose him Doctor of the Year. Dr. Moore volunteered many hours supporting the Catholic Charities program and was a member of Madalene Church. In recognition of his efforts, Bishop Victor Reed recommended him to the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Dr. Moore was bestowed Knighthood in 1981 and considered it to be one of his greatest honors. Dr. Moore is survived by: his devoted wife of 55 years, Thelma; 5 children, Kathlynn and her husband, Dr. Steven Schaefer of El Cajon, CA, Jane Ann Hancock of Tulsa, Matthew Moore, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Susan Grayson-Moore of Tulsa; Maureen and her husband, William Robinson of Minneapolis and Mindy Moore of Tulsa. He is also survived by 8 loving grandchildren, David, Stephanie and Brian Schaefer, Daniel Hancock, Emily and Caroline Moore, Ted and Matt Robinson. In leu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Francis Hospice or Madalene Church social concerns. Family will receive friends for visitation at Ninde's Garden Chapel from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday. Rosary will be Sunday at 7 p.m. and funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday both at Madalene Church located at 22nd and Harvard.
