HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Arthur J. "Art" Sconing, 87, of New Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Artis Senior Living of West Shore, Lemoyne. Son of the late Arthur J. and Mary (Pasterchalk) Sconing, he was born on September 12, 1931, in Washington, PA. Art was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania; he was a member of the ROTC while attending Trinity High School, Washington, and throughout college at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from the PA state government as the Executive Director of Health Insurance for the Commonwealth. Upon retirement, and in conjunction with the state, he volunteered his time by taking and testing water samples from local tributaries of the Susquehanna; Art was also an avid fisherman. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, and he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. Surviving Art is his wife of 64 years, Emelie A. (Travers) Sconing; two sons, James A. of Bradenton, FL, and Michael J. (Debbie) of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Gail M. Sconing (Thomas Samuel) of York, and Judy A. Miller of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Ashley, Aleq, Tyler, Jordan and Faith; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Leyla. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, immediately following mass. From 5-7PM the evening prior, Monday, June 10, a viewing will be held at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
