Lois Tiernan Varga's husband died in 2007:

Post-Gazette (Pittsburgh, PA)--On Monday, October 29, 2007, Dr. Arthur Bela Varga, beloved husband of 54 years passed away after a lengthy illness. Loving husband of Lois Jean Tiernan, cherished father of Dr. Jeffrey M. Varga and his wife Susan, and Michael J. Varga his companion Michele Pompa. Grandfather of Jessica Lauren, Jeffrey Alan Varga and Nicholas Pompa.

He was born and raised in Donora, PA and graduated from Donora High School in 1939 as President of his class. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served his country for 6 years. He was discharged with the rank of 1st Lt.

Dr. Varga was preceded in death by his father Nicholas in 1933, and his mother Julia Kustvan in 1988. He was a member of North American Martyrs Church in Monroeville and a former member of St. Therese Church in Uniontown. He was Past President of Fayette County Medical Society, Past President of the Uniontown Medical Staff, Life Member of VFW Post 47 and Post Surgeon in Uniontown, Life member of Donora Elks 1264, Past Member and board member of Mon Valley Pitt Golden Panther organization.

He entered The University of Pittsburgh in 1946. He received his B.S. degree in 1949 and Doctor of Medicine degree in 1952. Following an internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He practiced general medicine for 3 years in the Mon Valley area. He returned to Pittsburgh for a Residency in Anesthesiology. He practiced for 30 years, ten at Charleroi Monessen Hospital and 20 years at the Uniontown Hospital until his retirement in 1986.

Family & friends received at GENE H. CORL INC. FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATION CENTER OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (1 block East of Mosside-Rte 48) ( A Golden Rule Member). Visitation 2-4:00 & 7-9:00 PM Wednesday. Blessing Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
