Emma Soethe Nightingale is listed as a member, and former president, of the Maryland Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Emma's middle name is stated as Louise in the one article but it is Marie in all others. She married John "Jack" Nightengale.

Cumberland Times-News (MD) - July 8, 1998--Emma Mary (Grabenstein) Soethe, 90, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1907, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Stacer) Grabenstein. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Soethe, in 1964; two grandchildren, John L. Nightingale Jr., and Jacqueline Marie Nightingale, in 1980; and one son, Charles J. Soethe, in 1994.

Mrs. Soethe was a lifelong member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, and the Christian Mothers. She graduated from Ursuline Academy, Class of 1926. She was past president of Ursuline Alumni and the LaSalle Mothers Club and Christian Mothers. She also was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Sewing Group, a former secretary of the North Cumberland Homemakers, and a life member of the A.A.R.P.

Surviving are one daughter, Emma Marie Nightingale; a son-in-law, Jack; one granddaughter, Jonel Marie Nightingale, all of Lonaconing; and a special nephew, Leroy Schooley, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake conducted on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Vernon Busch, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.

Interment will be in the SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

The family requests contributions in memory of Mrs. Soethe be made to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
