Martha Ann Skowronek, the daughter of Stanley and Helen (Kurka) Skowronek, was born on December 15, 1931. She married John Anthony Cupets on June 6, 1953. John, born December 15, 1926, served in the U. S. Army during World War II. John's brother, George A. Kupets, married St. Francis grad, Helen Petrasun, Class of 1958. Anne Kathryn Kupets, sister of John and George, graduated in the Class of 1955-J.

John and Martha had two sons, John "Dan" and Mark. Their six daughters were Rosemary, Janine, Martha, Rita, Trudy, and Kristen. Mark is the father of U. S. Olympic Gymnast, Courtney Kupets.

John died November 19, 1998. -- California Area High School teacher, principal John A. Kupets, 71, of Republic, died Thursday, November 19, 1998, in his home. He was born December 15, 1926, a son of John and Mary Karpus Kupets. - Mr. Kupets was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society in Republic. He was a 1945 graduate of Redstone Township High School, received a bachelor of science degree in administration from Waynesburg College, and a masters of education degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Kupets retired from California Area High School, where he worked for more than 33 years. He served as high school teacher, business manager, secretary of the school board, maintenance supervisor, principal and acting superintendent. He received a certificate from Fayette County Civil Defense School. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as sergeant first class and chief supply specialist in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Kupets had served as football, basketball and baseball coach for schools and organizations and in 1975, he took California Area High School Baseball Team to the W.P.I.A.L. He was past president of St. George Jr. Tamboritizans Parent Organization. He served as notary public, Redstone Township auditor, past secretary of Republic Volunteer Fire Department, a longtime member of Pennsylvania State Education Association, and treasurer of the cafeteria fund at California Area High School. Mr. Kupets was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus, Uniontown Council, a member Jednota Lodge of Republic and the Eagles Club of Connellsville. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 of Uniontown, Hopwood and AMVETS Post 103. He was a member of Phi Sigma fraternity and Delta Pi Epsilon Honorary Business Fraternity. For the past ten years, he had served as president of Fayette County Baseball League. - On June 6, 1953, he married Martha Ann Skowronek, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John "Dan" Kupets of Uniontown and Mark Kupets of Gaithersburg, Md.; six daughters, Rosemary Hogan of Merrittstown, Janine Holbrook of Alexandria, Va., Martha West of Roanoke, Va., Rita Kelly of Gaithersburg, Md., Trudy Bennett of Bloomsburg and Kristen Luna of Arlington, Va.; 20 grandchildren, John Casey, Katie, Kara, Mark Justin, Ashley, Courtney and Christopher Kupets, Jenna Houston, James and Joshua Hogan, John Wesley Holbrook, Johnathan, Mary Katherine, and Martha Claire West, Matthew and Lindsey Kelly and Alessandro, Kylan, and Marissa Luna; two brothers, James Kupets of Rolla, Mo., and George Kupets Fallstown, Md. Deceased are a granddaughter, Constance Kelly; four brothers, Edward, Joseph, William and Charles Kupets; and a sister, Anne Mihok.

Martha died April 21, 2011. -- Martha Ann (Skowronek) Kupets, R.N., 79, of Republic, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Holy Thursday, April 21, 2011, from the home of her daughter in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania surrounded by family. - Friends will be received in the Robert T. Kish Funeral Home, 19 Legion Street, Republic, Pennsylvania today, April 26, 2011 until 9:30 a.m., when a Prayer Service will be Held. - A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Republic, with the Reverend Father James Clark as Celebrant. - Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Connellsville, Pennsylvania.
