Mary Margaret Skehan was born October 25, 1924 in Nemacolon, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were John Richard Skehan, Sr. and Helen C. Breen, both born in Pennsylvania.

She graduated from East Bethlehem High School in the Class of 1942.

While a student in the school of nursing, Mary Margaret Skehan participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.

She was residing in Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, when she married Jacob Burkey Fowkes, Jr. on July 1, 1946 in Pittsburgh.

Mary Margaret later married John F. Bennardo. He died September 8, 1989, and her death occurred on August 7, 2016.
