ROSE M. SINKEY HUGHES

Class of 1927

Rose M. (Sinkey) Hughes, 96, wife of the late Raymond W. Hughes, died Sunday morning, April 9, 2000, at the Montgomery County Geriatric Center, Royersford, where she lived since 1996. Mrs. Hughes was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Lloydsville, the daughter of the late Stephen and Barbara (Berzel) Sinkey. She was a 1922 graduate of Latrobe High School, and a 1927 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh. Mrs. Hughes was a resident of the South Park section of Pittsburgh until she retired to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1970. She later returned north to Audubon, Pa. (Montgomery County), near her daughter, Jane. Mrs. Hughes worked at St. Francis Hospital as a staff nurse and private duty nurse until she retired in the 1960s. Mrs. Hughes was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Betzwood, and a former member of Nativity Catholic Church in Broughton. She also was a member of the South Park Women's Golf Club in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Hughes is survived by two daughters, Marilyn H. Henderson of Palm Springs, Calif., and Jane H. Moore of Audubon; a son, Raymond W. Hughes Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Broughton.
