OBITUARY: Phyllis Marian Bradley, 86, previously of Altoona, died early Friday morning, January 14, 2022 at Canonsburg Hospital, Canonsburg.
Born July 24, 1935, in Tyrone, a daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Plummer) Shimp. On December 29, 1956, she married the late Dr. Vernon Francis Bradley at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Tyrone. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2015, after 58 years of marriage.
She is survived by four children: James S. of Greenville, SC, Timothy M., M.D. of Haines City, FL, Patrick (Janice) of Eighty Four, PA, and Mary Beth (Bob) McKown of Shelby, Ohio; a granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Bradley of Columbia, MO; and a cousin Rob (Tina) Givler of Tipton, PA.
Mrs. Bradley was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Ann Bradley on February 11, 2016, and a sister in law, Loretta Bradley of Pittsburgh, PA.
Marian graduated from Tyrone High School in 1953 and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1956. She also attended Penn State Altoona.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Vernon F. "Dag" Bradley, M.D., 83, Tyrone, formerly of Altoona, died Tuesday morning at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, after an extended illness.
He was born in Springdale, son of the late E. O. and Mary (Fajbik) Bradley. He married Phyllis Marian Shimp on Dec. 29, 1956, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Tyrone.
Surviving are his wife; four children: James S. of Altoona, Timothy M., M.D., of Geneva, Ill., Patrick K. (Janice) of Eighty Four and Mary Beth (Bob) McKown of Shelby, Ohio; two granddaughters: Lauren Elizabeth Bradley and Brittany Ann Bradley; and a sister, Loretta Bradley of Pittsburgh. Vernon graduated from New Kensington High School in 1950, studied pre-med at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, in 1958. He served his internship at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Tarentum and did his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, from 1959-63. He published and presented several papers in his field in 1962.
He was on the consulting staff of Tyrone Hospital, Van Zandt VA Medical Center and Nason Hospital and an active staff member of Mercy and Altoona hospitals. He was board certified in 1969 and recertified in 1978 by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Bradley retired in 1998 as a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology after 35 years of service. He then taught and was preceptor in OB/GYN with Altoona Family Physicians at Altoona Hospital. He was awarded Clinical Teacher of the Year by the family practice residency program in 1998 and presented a Life Achievement Award by the residents in 2003.
Dr. Bradley was a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of the American Medical Association, Blair County Medical Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and an associate member of the Royal College of Physicians.
He held the position of medical director of the Outpatient Prenatal Clinic at Altoona Hospital for 10 years and was an instructor in obstetrics in the family practice residency program at Altoona Hospital. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Practice at Hershey Medical School/Penn State College of Medicine, was a member of the QA Committee and the Preferred Health Care System Inc., Preferred Provider Organization at Altoona Hospital, and was former medical director of the same. He was a member and chairman of the executive committee of the medical staff and served as secretary and treasurer at Altoona Hospital in 1993.
He was also a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 20, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona, Father D. Timothy Grimme officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
