OBITUARY

MELLOS -- Helen Secunda. Mother of Evan Mellos and Sophia Mellos; wife of John Mellos, was called home to the Lord on September 12, 2003. A graduate of St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing and University of Pittsburgh, Helen practiced and taught nursing and served in the U.S. Air Force. Helen taught elementary school and worked as realtor in New Jersey for 15 years. Donations to St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Hillsborough, New Jersey, may be made in lieu of flowers. Memorial liturgy will be held on September 20th at 10 AM.

Butler Eagle, September 19, 2003 -- Helen M. Mellos, 74, of Whitehouse Station, N.J., died Sept. 12 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, N.J. - Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Butler, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Guzak Secunda. - An alumna of Butler High School, she received a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, in 1950 and a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She also received master's degrees in psychology and nursing. - She practiced both psychiatric and pediatric nursing during her career and taught nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. - Mrs. Mellos served in the Air Force as a first lieutenant registered nurse from 1956 to 1960 and was stationed in Torrance, Calif., and Tachikawa, Japan. - She taught at Holy Family School and was a real estate agent in New Jersey for 15 years. She enjoyed a lifetime interest in politics and current events. - She was a 30-year parishioner of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Hillsborough, N.J. - Surviving are her husband of 43 years; a daughter; a son; a sister; three brothers; and a sister-in-law. Three grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. - She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Stephen, Joseph, William and Elizabeth Secunda.

MELLOS - A memorial Mass for Helen M. Mellos, who died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, will be celebrated at noon Monday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lyndora. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. - In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 1900 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough, NJ 08844. -Arrangements are under the direction of KETUSKY FUNERAL HOME, Manville, N.J.
