IDA E. SCHMIDT

Ida E. Schmidt, born July 1, 1888, in Hochsten, Germany, was the daughter of Karl Schmidt and Laura Kurz.

In The Pittsburgh Chapter, American Red Cross: A History of the Activities of the Chapter from Its Organization to January 1, 1921...., Emma E. O'Donnell, Class of 1914, is named as a Supervisor at the Public Health Nursing Association. Among the nursing staff of this aspect of the Red Cross, were a number of St. Francis nurses, including Ida E. Schmidt, Class of 1914.

At the time of the 1920 census, two Schmidt sisters, both aliens, lived on Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh. One, given name not stated, was surely Ida Schmidt, from the class of 1914. (The other was Emma Schmidt.) Miss Emma O'Donnell and Mary Herman, both in the Class of 1914, lived there, as well. Miss M. Herman, 26, was a nurse in an office, and Miss Emma O'Donnell was a nurse in Public Health. The Schmidt sister was a nurse in private practice.

In 1924, Ida Elizabeth Schmidt, Graduate Nurse, applied to become a Naturalized Citizen. She stated she had arrived in the United States, at the Port of New York, on September 27, 1907. She became a citizen in 1929.

In 1930, Ida E. Schmidt and her sister, Emma, were living on Halket Street, Pittsburgh. Ida E., a Graduate Nurse, worked in a hospital. Her sister was a beauty operator.

Ida and Emma were living on Bartlett Street, Pittsburgh in 1940. Emma was a hairdresser in a beauty parlor; no occupation for Ida.

Ida E. Schmidt died on August 3, 1962 at the Protestant Home for Incurables on Butler Street, Pittsburgh.
