OBITUARY: REIDSVILLE - Rosemary Schanz Slaydon, 85, of 411 Cedar Lane Reidsville, N.C. passed away Wednesday July 21, 2010 at her home.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday July 24, 2010 at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Reidsville with Father Joe Mack officiating.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late Anna Koertz Nosidlak and step-daughter of the late John H. Nosidlak. A graduate of St. Francis Nursing College, she worked at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh until she left to go to Memphis, TN to serve her country as an Army nurse during World War II. It was there she met her husband, Joe. After they married she moved to Reidsville and worked from 1946 until she retired at Annie Penn Hospital, as well as doing private duty nursing. Mrs. Slaydon loved horseback riding and was a member of the Saddle Club. She enjoyed swimming, sewing, and playing bridge. She was one of the original members of Holy Infant Catolic Church in Reidsville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Joseph Womble "Joe" Slaydon.

Surviving include a son, David Joseph Slaydon and wife Peg of Reidsville. Daughter Anne Christi Wade and husband Wesley of Reidsville. Granddaughter, Polly Phillips and husband Jon. Great grandchildren, Harris and Price Phillips. Step-grandchildren, Brian Lanning, Brooke Lanning Fortuna, Joshua Wade, and Jessica Wade.

The family would also like to thank special friends and caregivers Evelyn Bankston, Ruth Martin, Marie Scales, Joanne Doggett, Rachel Singleton, and Nancy Verdi for their love and care of mother.

The family will see friends 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday July 23, 2010 at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence 411 Cedar Lane Reidsville, N.C.
