OBITUARY

MARY REGINA 'JEAN' BOYLE, TAUGHT ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S

Mary Regina "Jean" Boyle, who had been featured in a video produced by the University of Pittsburgh School of Health to teach nurses and health-care professionals how to deal with Alzheimer's patients and their families, died Wednesday of respiratory arrest due to Alzheimer's disease.

Mrs. Boyle, of Penn Hills, died in a Spring Church, Armstrong County, nursing home where she had been residing recently.

A 1951 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, she had been employed at St. Francis Medical Center and Forbes Health System.

An avid boater and swimmer, Mrs. Boyle was a member of the Duquesne Canoe Club in Verona. She also was a member of the Penn Aqua Club and St. Bartholomew Church in Penn Hills, where she was a member and past president of the Ladies Guild and bowling league and a member of the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her husband, George W. Boyle Jr.; six children, Barbara J. DeFazio of Plum, Patricia A. Hoy, Rosemary Hogan and Thomas J. of Penn Hills, all of Penn Hills, George W. III of Cleveland, and James E. of Orlando, Fla.; her mother, Hilda Rodgers of Lawrenceville; four sisters, Kathleen Palermo of Millvale, Margaret Pecman of Lawrenceville, Ellen Gould of Apollo and Marilyn Boehm of Penn Hills; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today in the Soxman Funeral Home/ Morasco Chapel, 9406 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. A Mass will be celebrated at noon tomorrow in St. Bartholomew Church, Erhardt Drive, Penn Hills. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Penn Hills.
