OBITUARY: Age 86, a longtime resident of the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh and Shaler Township, died peacefully surrounded by family members in Mercy Hospital on May 19, 2021. She was the beloved wife of George Joseph Petnuch for 59 years until his death on January 22, 2016. Maryanna was the daughter of the late Edmund Joseph Pietrusinski and Anna Frankowski Pietrusinski of Hampton Township. She is survived by her sister, Eileen Pietrusinski and brother, Carl Pietrusinski. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin Pietrusinski and Walter Pietrusinski. Maryanna is survived by her five children, Matthew (Donis) Petnuch, Ron (Susan) Petnuch, Martha (Greg) Hirst, Barbara (Bill) Horne and Dr. Thomas (Julie) Petnuch; nineteen grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tyler) Rounding, Andrew (Jenna) Petnuch, Laura (Andrew) McEvoy, Maria (David) Phelps, Brian (Alexi) Petnuch, Craig (Hillary) Petnuch, Kathleen (Franklin) Leach, Jill (Jared) Schuerman, Kevin (engaged to Elizabeth Saxe) Petnuch, Jennifer (Terner) Gott, Hannah Hirst, Ryan Petnuch, Peter Hirst, Susan Rhodora Petnuch, Rachel Hirst, Sarah Petnuch, Grace Petnuch, Benjamin Petnuch and Jacob Petnuch; 19 great-grandchildren, Mark Rounding, Adeline Phelps, Eliza Rounding, Margaret McEvoy, Andrew "Jay" Petnuch Jr., Eloise Phelps, Lucille Rounding, Jackson Phelps, Amelia Petnuch, George McEvoy, Martha Petnuch, Rosemary McEvoy, Philip Rounding, Emmett Rounding, Jameson Rounding, Virginia Gott, Simon Petnuch, Genevieve Phelps and Franklin Leach Jr.

Maryanna was a graduate of Mt. Alvernia High School and of the former St. Francis Nursing School at St. Francis Hospital. She enjoyed knitting and making clothes for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many of those creations are still being worn by her great-grandchildren to this day. ""Granny" as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grands had a tradition of making a quilt for every grandchild before he/she departed for college so that he/she could have a little bit of home in his/her dorm room or apartment", said her daughter, Barbara Horne. "Those quilts are prized possessions by her grandchildren today", adds her daughter, Martha Hirst. "Mom was faith-filled and taught us how to pray," said her oldest son, Matthew Petnuch. She was a devoted wife and mother. "She cared for her elderly parents in our home as their health declined and they passed. We were crowded but there was never any question that our childhood home was full of family and of unconditional love. Mom was a saint. She always had time to talk to us about our day when we returned from school and sat in the kitchen while she prepared dinner before dad returned from work. Those were special times when you could talk about all your problems and get nothing but love and guidance in return", said Ron Petnuch, her son. Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J.
