AUDREY PHEIL HEILMAN

Class of 1951-A

OBITUARY: Audrey A. Heilman (nee Pfeil), age 91, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 6, 2022 after a long illness, in the Shaler Township home that she and her husband Norbert built and lived in for 62 years.

She is survived by her children Michael John Heilman (Leslie) of Pittsburgh, Kathleen Geer (Douglas) of Jenkintown, PA, daughter-in-law Maribeth McCarthy of Alexandria, VA, grandchildren Christian, Travis and Carter Geer, Jack and Luke Heilman and Elisabeta Heilman, sister Celine Hammer (nee Pfeil) and nieces Elaine Barnes (nee Hammer) and Janet Clark (nee Hammer).

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Norbert, her son Richard John Heilman, her parents Richard and Helene Pfeil, brother Richard J. Pfeil and brother-in-law Charles Hammer.

Audrey had many passions. The greatest was caring for her husband and children, and helping her children and grandchildren develop and grow. She was dedicated to her Catholic faith, active at the former St. Ann’s Parish (Millvale) as a member and officer of the Christian Mothers, school librarian, nurse, home room mother and many other roles. Later she served All Saints Parish with enthusiasm. She was proud to be a graduate of St. Benedict Academy and St. Francis School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital she loved both the science and patient care. She was also an expert cook and baker, especially Christmas cookies including her specialty, pizzelles and her grandchildren fondly remember the artistic birthday cakes she made. She was an avid gardener growing hundreds of seedlings in her basement under grow lights. She also enjoyed travel and the arts, attending the symphony with her husband, learning calligraphy and to play the piano in her 60’s. She was an expert at word puzzles and an avid reader. The many special and memorable holiday celebrations were loved and will be long remembered by her family. Audrey could be found almost every summer day at Shaler pool “doing her laps.”

Visitation Friday August 19 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw.

Funeral Mass Saturday August 20 at 10 AM at St. Matthew Parish, All Saints Church, Etna.
