ELIZABETH A. O'ROURKE D'ZMURA

Class of 1914

A news article about the St. Francis graduating Class of 1914 states that this graduate was "Elizabeth A. O'Rourke, Clearfield, Pa."

The American Catholic Who's Who, 1960-1961: An entry states (paraphrasing) that Andrew Peter D'Zmura, M.D., born in Braddock, Pa., Oct 8, 1890, was the s/o Peter John and Helen Agnes (Oslacky). He was educated at Holy Grail College (now Duquesne U.), Pittsburgh; St. Vincent's College, Latrobe, (ect.) He began teaching at St. Francis Hospital in 1913... He married Elizabeth Ann O'Rourke of Clearfield, Pa. on July 20, 1916. Their three children were Elizabeth Ann, Andrew Peter, Jr., and Thomas Leo.

Elizabeth Ann O'Rourke was born December 29, 1891, according to the Social Security Death record. Census records indicate she was born in Pennsylvania and her parents were born in Ireland.

She was the daughter of Francis "Frank" O'Rourke, a mine boss, born in Ireland, found with 7 children in Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, in 1900. His wife is not listed, but she was Margaret O'Flaharty, and possibly died in 1899. The oldest child, Margaret, age 20, was born in Scotland. In 1910, Elizabeth is probably the "servant" working in a private home in Clearfield, Clearfield County. At the same residence was Maggie O'Rourke, born in Scotland, who was probably the Margaret from 1900. This Margaret died in 1934.

Elizabeth's father died in 1923, at which time his obituary names his surviving children. Although riddled with errors, Elizabeth would be the "Mrs. P. A. Dymura, Pittsburgh," which, of course, should be Mrs. A. P. Dzmura or D'Zmura.

O'Rourke

Elizabeth Ann O'Rourke D'Zmura died August 2, 1974. She is buried at Monongahela Cemetery near her husband and his family.
