OBITUARY

Served In Army Nurse Corps During World War II

Helen Kormanik, 87, of Dublin, Ohio, formerly of Nemacolin, died Monday, July 19, 2004, following a lengthy illness.

She was born February 5, 1917, in Oliver, a daughter of Andrew and Catherine Yanechko Orlosky.

She was a graduate of Carmichaels High School and a 1939 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh.

During World War II, she served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Her unit was the 51st Station Hospital, 2nd Armored Division, 3rd Army. She was a nurse for Buckeye Coal Co. of Nemacolin from 1945 to 1955 and was director of nursing for Curry Home, Waynesburg, from 1961 to 1974. She then worked for Western State School and Hospital as a nursing supervisor until 1984.

Mrs. Kormanik was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Nemacolin, where she was a member of Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of Greene County.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel A. Kormanik of Newtown, Conn., and John D. Kormanik of Dublin, Ohio; three sisters, Mary F. Ringer of Dublin, Ohio, Louise Simkovic of Carmichaels and Marguerite Urbany of Washington; a brother, Edward Orlosky of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Deceased are her husband, John Kormanik; and four brothers, Andrew and Frank and two others who died in infancy.
