Clara Mary Nyland, the daughter of John J. Nyland, born in Ireland, and his wife, Margaret (O'Loughlin), born in Pennsylvania, is found in the 1910 Federal Census of Rose Twp., Jefferson County. Clara's occupation was "Trained Nurse."

Probably about 1915, Clara married Joseph Hepfl, a coal miner. At the time of the 1920 census, she was the mother of two baby sons, Edmund and Leo Raymond, both under age three. They resided in Sugar Creek Twp., Armstrong County.

Clara Mary Nyland Hepfl, born August 11, 1881 in Jefferson County, died June 16, 1929 in Walk Chalk, Armstrong County.

Following Clara's death, her husband, Joseph, is found in the 1930 census with five children: Joe, Leo, John, George and Margaret. Joseph eventually remarried, and he lived until 1973.
