RUTH NIBERT CARFAGNA

OBITUARY: RUTH I. (NIBERT) CARFAGNA - Age 83, of Shaler, died on Saturday, May 27, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family, friends, and caregivers. Ruth was born in Indiana, PA on July 31, 1933, daughter to late, John O. and Marie Blakley Nibert; and sister to late, John J. (Wilma) Nibert, Bertha E. (surviving Harolde) Smeltzer, and Anna Marie Sheesley. It was in Pittsburgh that she met and fell in love with her beloved husband, Frank who passed away in 1972. Ruth graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing and eventually became a Head Nurse at Suburban General Hospital in Bellevue from which she retired. Ruth raised her three sons whom all graduated college and received varying advanced degrees. Ruth had five grandchildren, each of whom she loved uniquely and dearly. Ruth was a member of the West View Ladies Auxiliary Post 2754 in West View. She was passionate about volunteering for Autism Speaks on behalf of her grandson. Ruth was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins. She enjoyed crafting, bingo, and being with family and friends. She had a charming personality and was loved by all who met her. Ruth is survived by her three children, Mark and Tracy (Carmel IN) and their children, Matthew, Tyler, and Rachel, Thomas (Shaler), and Patrick and Elaine (Ross) and their children, Andrew and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Ruth's dedication to the cause, family and friends are asked to make donations to Autism Speaks c/o "Danny's Dream Team," 8035 McKnight Road, Suite 301, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Family will welcome friends on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 388 Center Avenue, West View.
