OBITUARY: Eleanor M. Brown, 93, of Lakeside, Michigan, passed away May 29, (2021) of natural causes. Eleanor was born December 13, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the daughter of the late James Edward Murphy, II and wife, Effie Dunn Murphy. She was wife of George William Brown, having been married in Midland, PA on April 18, 1959. Together they had six children, of which Eleanor is survived by two sons, James (Paula) Brown of Canfield, OH and Donald Brown of Hopkinton, MA; three daughters, Judith Brown (Robert Davis) of Lakeside, MI, Karen Lotrecchiano of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Susan Bowles (Gary) of Beaver Falls, PA; and grandchildren, Allison (Adam) Engstrom, Rachel (Brett) Jones, Sarah, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Austin Brown, Andrew (Silvia) Davis, Katherine and Nicholas Lotrecchiano, Gannon, Mairin and Georgie Bowles, and great-grandchildren, Layla and Rosie Engstrom, and Henry Jones. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Brown of Redmond, WA, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George and infant son, William Brown, her parents and brothers, James Edward Murphy, III, and William Robert Murphy.

Eleanor grew up and attended high school in Midland, PA. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1948, shortly thereafter she began her teaching career there focusing on medical-surgical and maternity nursing. She went on to earn three degrees from the University of Pittsburgh: a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education 1953, a Master of Letters from the Graduate School of Education in Nursing Education in 1956, and after surviving two successful surgeries and treatment for a benign brain tumor, she earned her Ph-D in Higher Education in 1987. After a brief hiatus to start a family and raise her small children, Eleanor returned to teaching in 1971, joining the faculty of the Community College of Beaver County as a Nursing Instructor; she continued to teach for twenty-two years focusing on maternity nursing, indulging in her love of newborns and the desire to share her insights to countless new mothers. Eleanor lived a long life filled with many blessings. She discovered her passion and skillfully turned it into a successful career. She enjoyed her family, her many friends and neighbors in Pittsburgh and Beaver Falls, PA, Lakeside, MI, and particularly those at their summer cottage in Westfield, NY. She found strength in her catholic faith, and her devotion to the Blessed Mother and Saint Jude. She was a puzzle/card-game enthusiast, enjoying word searches, rummy, and Skip-bo! She also liked following murder mysteries and true crime series, both in books and on TV.
