OBITUARY

Jefferson Regional Medical Center Nurse, VFD Member

Kevin J. Melville, 51, of Eighty Four, Somerset Township, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009, in Jefferson Regional Health Center, Jefferson Borough.

He was born April 17, 1958, at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C., a son of the late Michael J. and Donna Jean Muscatell Melville.

A 1976 graduate of Bentworth High School, he attended California University of Pennsylvania and was a 1994 graduate of St. Francis Medical Center Professional School of Nursing in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Melville, at the time of his death, was a registered nurse in the emergency department at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was retired from the intensive care unit at Veterans Hospital in Oakland, Pittsburgh.

He previously was employed by the former Kenneth V. Thompson Funeral Home in Bentleyville. He was a paramedic for Rostraver EMS and a paramedic supervisor for American Ambulance in McKeesport.

Mr. Melville was a life member of Bentleyville Volunteer Fire Department, a current member of Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of Washington County Hazardous Material Team.

He was a former Bentleyville Borough councilman and was currently serving as an auditor for Somerset Township.

An avid golfer, he was a head coach for the boys' intramural basketball league at Bentworth Middle School.

He was a member of Ave Maria Parish in Bentleyville.

On May 9, 1987, in St. Pius Church in McKeesport, he married Sharon M. Benick, who survives.

He was the loving father of sons Noah John and Luke David Melville, both at home. Also surviving are a brother, Keith G. Melville of Scenery Hill and two sisters, Kimberly A. Baughman (Barry) of Doylestown and Kiera A. Gorham (James) of Illinois. He was the loving son-in-law of William and Doris Benick of McKeesport and brother-in-law of Jim and Diane Benick of Penn Hills and Doreen and Art Wray of North Versailles.

He also leaves several nieces and nephews; a great-niece; a great-nephew; and many devoted friends.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is an infant son, Adam Stephen Melville, who died November 1, 2000.

Friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m Sunday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville, with the Rev. Gary W. Krummert, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington County Humane Society, PO Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
