Class of 1968-J
OBITUARY: Mary Ellen McGovern George, 66, of Monessen, ended her time with us on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. She was a wife, mother and grandmother, daughter and sister, aunt, niece and cousin, nurse and patient, and friend to many. Mary Ellen married Jim George in Pittsburgh in 1975. Later, with nothing but a dog, a toddler and a green '57 Chevy, they moved to North Carolina via a road trip through California. They planted their roots in Asheville and raised a family of four children. There, Mary Ellen answered her true calling and worked for many years as a midwife and a labor and delivery nurse at Mission Hospital, welcoming new life for appreciative families. She loved so many things - traveling, cooking, the beach, reading, air conditioning, Italy, Netflix, fresh herbs from the garden, sweet tea, crossword puzzles, Lifesavers, tomatoes in the summer, coffee with extra cream, a certain fig tree, and above all else, her family. She beamed with pride and love for her grandchildren, and always wished that they didn't live so far away. She is survived by her three daughters, Kelly (and Bill and Will), Kate (and Zachary) and Chloe (and Hunter, Davis and Madeline); mother, Helen McGovern; and brothers, Charles (and Toni and Charlie), Patrick (and Liza, Melissa and Kelly) and Michael. She was preceded in death by her son, James; husband, Jim; and father, Charles. And even though disease ended her life, it was a broken heart from losing her son that caused her decline. Mom, we miss you, but have peace knowing your heart will be mended now. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at The Epiphany of Our Lord Parish in Monessen. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or Monongahela Valley Hospital. -- Published in Valley Independent on May 8, 2015.
