MARY MARGARET McCANN GARCIA TRICKEL

Class of 1917

Mary Margaret McCann was born on May 4, 1895 to Thomas and Sarah [Pennington] McCann of New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. Her middle name, "Margaret," is gleaned from a list of the 1917 graduates that was published in the Pittsburgh Press on May 23, 1917.

In July 1920, Mary married Manuel Garcia, a civil engineer. They lived in Havanna, Cuba, and according to notes in newspapers, they spent a month in New Orleans, and at some point, lived in Texas, as well as Cleveland, Ohio. They had no children, and Manuel died suddenly in 1929. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Castle.

On November 23, 1942, Mary married Culley J. Trickel, and they made their home in Baker, Oregon. Culley died in Baker in 1972, and Mary died there on January 14, 1980.

OBITUARY--- January 14, 1980 -- A Resident of Baker, OR - Mary McCann Trickel, 84, died January 14, 1980, at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, Baker, OR, of cancer. The Vigil Wake service was held at the Langrell Mortuary Chapel with the Mass of the Christian Burial held on January 16 at St. Francis Cathedral with the Rev. Joseph Reeves officiating. She was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Castle, Pennsylvania, beside her late husband. - Mary Trickel was born May 4, 1895, to Thomas and Sarah [Pennington] McCann of New Castle, PA. Her mother was a daughter of John Asbury Pennington and Sarah Slack. - Mary was a 1917 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. After retiring from nursing, she owned and operated the Trickel Yarn Shop in Baker, OR. She was a member of St. Francis Cathedral, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Retired Nurses Association, and was also a member of the DAR, Matthew Starbuck Chapter. - She married Manuel Garcia and later married Cully John Trickel, who died January 26, 1972. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Leo L. Rogan, Sebring, FL, and Sister Martha McCann, Baden, PA; a niece, Jane Parks, Dania, FL, and several other nieces and nephews, and the sons and daughters of Cully Trickel.
