Obituary of Elizabeth Mazanetz Brennen


Elizabeth D. Brennan, age 83, of Charleroi, died on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born on January 27, 1928, in Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Mathias and Mary Rose (Fegela) Mazanetz.

Elizabeth was retired from Mon Valley Hospital, where she worked many years as a registered nurse. She received her RN training at St. Francis Hospital, in Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, Elizabeth joined the United States Navy and served on active duty as a nurse during the Korean War.

Elizabeth was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi. She faithfully supported a number of charities, especially St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Elizabeth is survived by her six children, Theresa M. (Gary) Sebastian, of IL, Richard P. Brennan, of MA, Kathleen B. (James) Van Fleet, of IL, Kevin M. (Cindy) Brennan, of IL, Judith A. Brennan, of IL, and Timothy J. (Nadia) Brennan, of IL; three grandchildren, Christine L. Van Fleet, of CA, Erin M. Van Fleet, of IL, James B. Van Fleet, of IL; sisters, Martha R. Mayton, of Richeyville, Margaret W. Mazanetz,and Helen Jean Mazanetz, both of Charleroi; brother, John R. Mazanetz, of Charleroi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother, William M. Mazanetz; sisters, Mary L. Miller, Kathryn A. Mazanetz, and Anna M. Mazanetz.

At Elizabeth's request there will be no vistation. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 AM, in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
