Josephine Manfredo, born about 1915, was the daughter of Joseph L. and Rose H. Manfredo. At the time of the 1920 and 1930 Federal Censuses, the family lived in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. In 1940 they lived in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and Josephine, a Hospital Nurse, was residing there. The census record indicates that she had lived in Pittsburgh in 1935, which is the time she was a student at St. Francis. Her siblings in 1940 were Florence M., Margaret A., Louis J., Antoinette L., and Adeline M.

On May 7, 1941, Josephine reported for duty with the Army Nurse Corps at Fort Eustis. A month later, a young nurse who had enlisted at the same time, was found dead.

In Newport News, Virginia, on July 18, 1942, Josephine Manfredo, Nurse, 26, of Fort Hustis, born in Rossiter, Pennsylvania, daughter of Joseph Manfredo and Rose louise Palmer, married John Franklin, 26, a soldier (1st Lieutenant) born in Philadelphia.

2nd Lieutenant Josephine Manfredo Franklin is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. She was born September 15, 1914 and died March 13, 2002; last known residence West Chester, Pennsylvania. Her husband, John Franklin, was a Lieutenant Colonel and he died in 1980, last known residence Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
