While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Mary Jane Maloney participated in the U.S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.

She was the daugher of Raymond and Marie Snyder Algeo Maloney of Calvin Street, Pittsburgh. Her siblings were Patrick, Richard, and Raymonda Maloney Wohead.

Mary Jane apparently continued her nursing education at the University of Pittsburgh, and she then served in the Navy Nurse Corps.
