Alfreda's parents were Polish immigrants, Zigmund and Mary (Witucki) Maleski, living in Harrison, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania at the time of the 1930 Federal Census, and in Brackenridge Borough, Allegheny County, in 1940.

Alfreda's sister, Charlotte, graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in the Class of 1940. Other siblings were Edwin, Richard, and Irene.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY --- Anthony A. Gazarik, 87, of Tarentum, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, in his home after a long illness. - He was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Tarentum, the son of the late Andrew and Catherine Masarik Gazarik. - After high school, Anthony joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the forestry department. In March of 1941, he volunteer for the U.S. Army and was stationed in Maryland, Texas and Colorado. - Following his Army discharge, he worked in the state forestry department of Colorado. - Anthony attended Western State University, now part of Colorado State University. - Mr. Gazarik was well-known for many years as a barber in Tarentum until his retirement. - He was a member of Holy Martyrs Roman Catholic Parish in Tarentum and served on the church council at one time. Mr. Gazarik enjoyed reading history and crossword puzzles. - He was the beloved husband of Alfreda Maleski Gazarik; loving father of Richard (Lucy) Gazarik of Greensburg, and Antoinette (William) McLeod of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandfather of Kathryn and Adam Gazarik, whom he dearly loved; brother of Steve (Ruth) Gazarik of Tarentum, and Edward Gazarik of Lower Burrell. - He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Francis and Joseph Gazarik; and sisters, Mary Bazala, Josephine and Anne Chelko. - Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME, Natrona Heights, where a blessing service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart St. Peter Church, Tarentum, with his pastor, the Rev. Aaron Kriss, officiating. OBITUARY: Alfreda (Maleski) Gazarik, 92, of Tarentum, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at her home. She was born April 23, 1923, in Export, a daughter of the late Zygmund and Mary Witucki Maleski. Alfreda was a 1943 graduate of Har-Brack High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She worked as a Registered Nurse before retiring. Alfreda was a member of Holy Martyrs Church in Tarentum. Alfreda is survived by her son, Richard (Lucy) Gazarik, of Greensburg; a daughter, Toni (William) McLeod, of Tarentum; two grandchildren, Kathryn Gazarik and Adam Gazarik and his fiance, Kellie Karasack, all of Pittsburgh; brother, Richard Maleski, of Natrona Heights: and by a longtime family friend, Mary Ann Kupka, of Lower Burrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony A. Gazarik on March 12, 2006; sisters, Irene Szalanski and Charlotte Maleski; and by her brother, Edwin Maleski. - There will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11 AM in Holy Martyrs Church with her pastor the Rev. Thomas Gillespie, MD, as celebrant. Entombment will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery Mausoleum, Frazer Township.
