PILOT REMEMBERED AT MINOT

Aug 13, 2005 - Bismark Tribune

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE (AP) - The widow and daughters of a Minot Air force Base pilot killed in a 1963 crash returned to the base to honor the fallen flier.

Joan Richardson Singleton of San Antonio and two daughters unveiled a plaque Friday that contained a story and photos about Capt. William Richardson, who died in December 1963 when his F-106 Delta Dart crashed near Flasher, in southwestern North Dakota.

Friday's ceremony was held in front of Richardson Hall, a dormitory named in Richardson's honor. Family members said they were not aware until recently that a dorm was named for him.

The plaque will be placed in the dormitory, which is home to members of the 91st Missile Security Forces Squadron - many of whom attended the ceremony.

"It was a very beautiful but bittersweet ceremony. I want to thank everybody for all the work," Singleton said.

During the ceremony, Richardson's daughter, Patricia Richardson Healy of Marietta, Ga., told about her attempts to find out more about her father.

"I wanted to know about my dad as a pilot," she said.
