JENNIE D. MacINTYRE MAHAFFEY

Janet "Jennie" MacIntyre was born 30 May 1896 in Glascow, Scotland to William MacIntyre and Fannie McCann, also born in Scotland.

Janet/Jennie and her sister, Helen/Nellie, graduated in the Class of 1924 at St. Francis.

The MacIntyre family - spelled "McIntyre" - is found in the 1920 Federal Census of Juniata Borough, Blair County, Pennsylvania. The father, William MacIntyre, was 60, his wife, Fanny, 57. They had emigrated from Scotland in 1887. Children named in that census were James, 29; William, 27; Jennie, 25; George, 23; married daughter, Fannie Redding, 21, and Nellie, 18. Based on the census information, William and Fanny had come to the U. S. in 1887, had son, Joseph, in Pennsylvania about 1889, and then returned to Scotland before the births of William, Jennie, George, Fannie and Nellie. Son, William, emigrated to the U. S. in 1910 and the others in 1911. At that time - 1920 - the father was a railroad laborer. Jennie was a weaver in a silk mill, Fannie was a proof reader in a newspaper office, and Nellie was a transferer in the silk mill. Her younger sister, Nellie, also worked in the silk mill.

The father, William MacIntyre, died in Blair County 25 Dec 1927 and he is buried at Grandview Cemetery, Juniata. According to his death certificate, he was born in Scotland 10 March 1855 to William MacIntyre and Janet Daugherty.

Jennie D. MacIntyre's real name, Janet, is no doubt in honor of her grandmother.

Jennie was called Janet in the 1930 census, at which time she was 34 and working as a "Nurse - Private Cases." She was residing in Avalon, Allegheny County, with her brother, James M., her widowed mother, Fannie, her sister's daughter, Isabel Redding, and James' son, James, Jr., age 7.

Jennie/Janet married Herbert A. Mahaffey, and they lived on Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh. Jennie/Janet died of Uremia related to Acute Nephritis on 20 July 1939. She is buried at Grandview Cemetery, Juniata, Blair County, with other family members. -- Jennie's mother, Fannie McCann McIntyre, born in 1861, died in 1938. Sister, Frances, married name Pugh, born in 1898, died in 1977. Frances' daughter from her first marriage, Isabel Redding, died 30 Nov 1866.
