SOPHIA J. LAST EVANS

In 1920, the Last family lived in Clymer, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. [Paul Gregor Lascz] George Last, 40, a coal miner born in Poland, and his wife, Susie, 43, born in Poland, had the following children: Sophia, 13, Paul, 12, Anna, 10, Adaline, 8, and Cellia, 5.

At the time of the 1930 census, Sophia J. Last, 23, was a lodger at a home on Friendship Avenue, Pittsburgh. She was a trained nurse, employed at a hospital.

On October 16, 1930, Sophia Last was issued a Professional Nursing License in Washington, D. C. She probably changed to her married name, Last, later, but this license expired in 1933.

Sophia Last, born May 4, 1907 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and a resident of Washington, D. C., arrived on June 13, 1932, at New York, New York, after leaving the Canal Zone, Panama.

Sophie Last, born in Scranton, Pa., on May 4, 1906, and a resident of Washington, D.C., embarked at Cristobal on May 20, 1934.

Sophia Last married Albert H. Evans, born in New York, and in 1940 they were living with two widowed sisters in Washington, D.C. Albert was employed as a Government Clerk. Sophia and Albert had two children, Albert, 4, and Marian E., 3. - The family is also listed in the 1940 census of Balboa, Panama Canal.

The back and forth travel to Panama continued with her husband and children until the early 1960s.

Sophia Last Evans, May 4, 1906, died 30 July 1991 in Pinellas County, Florida.

OBITUARY: EVANS, SOPHIA L., 85, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (July 30, 1991) at home. She was born in Scranton, Pa., and came here in 1961 from the Panama Canal Zone. She was a registered nurse. Survivors include a son, Albert, Morehead, Ky.; a daughter, Marion Blair, Plainfield, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
