CATHERINE (KATHERINE) M. KROFCHECK VASELOVIC

Class of 1929

Born in Haydentown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1906, Katherine M. Krofcheck was the daughter of John Krofcheck and Susanna Kovach, both born in Czechoslovakia. At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, John and Susan "Krafcik," of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, had the following children: Andrew J., 22, Joseph J., 22, Hellen, 16, Catherine, 14, Mary 12, Margaret 10, and Paul, 8. - There was an older sister, Susan, born in 1892, and perhaps other children.

In the 1930 census, Catherine Krofcheck, 26, Hospital Nurse, was residing at Dearborn Street, Pittsburgh. Another boarder was Mary Krofcheck, 23, a Hairdresser at a Beauty Shop.

On February 26, 1933, Katherine M. Krofcheck, 27, married John J. Vaselovic, 21, in Manhattan, New York.

Mary Ann Krofcheck, 30, a sister of Katherine, and likely the woman residing with Katherine in the 1930 census, died of stomach cancer on April 27, 1937. She had married Adam Radvansky. Her obituary indicates that Katherine and two other sisters were residing in New York.

In 1940, John and Catherine were living on East 122nd Street, New York. He was employed as a stock clerk at a hospital. Catherine was the mother of two baby boys, John 2, and James, 1.

From a list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses, 1940-1941, published by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners: "K. M. Krofcheck Vaselovic, 247 E. 122nd St., New York City, N. Y."

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: JOHN J. VASELOVIC, 75, 2815 52nd Avenue Drive West, Bradenton, died Thursday. Born in New York City, he moved to Brandenton from Iselin, N.J., in 1975. He was a retired package handler for a railroad express agency and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bradenton. Survivors: sons, John J. Jr., Robinson, Ill., Vincent J., Indianapolis; daughter, Monica M. Marcarelli, Winter Springs; brother, William, New York City. Son, John J. Vaselovic, Jr., born in 1937, died of Leukemia in 2004.
