While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Helen Kravits participated in the U.S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.

Following her graduation from nursing school, Helen Martha Kravits joined the Army Nurse Corps. She served between January 15, 1945 and June 16, 1947. In 1950, when she applied for Veteran Compensation, she stated she was born on September 19, 1922 in Sagamore, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. At the time of her application, she was Helen Martha Prasek, and she lived in Ambridge, Beaver County.

According to her Social Security record, her name became Helen M. Palmer in November 1957. Her parents are stated as Matthew Kravits and Mary Koval.

Helen's death occurred on December 19, 1998; last residence, Lakeland, Polk County, Florida. She is buried at Oak Hill Burial Park, Lakeland. Her husband, buried beside her, was Bernard G. Palmer, 1929-1994.

Apparently, Helen became a Physical Therapist.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: LAKELAND -- Mr. Bernard G. Palmer of Lakeland died Monday (Nov. 14, 1994) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 65. - Born in Canton, Mass., on March 20, 1929, he moved to Lakeland from Sewickley, Pa., in 1958. He was a physical therapist at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Physical Therapy Association and member and president of St. Joseph's School Board. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. - He is survived by his wife, Helen Palmer, Lakeland; son, Paul David Palmer, Winter Haven; daughter, Mary Anne Barnett, Lakeland; brother, Kenneth B. Palmer, Salt Lake City; and six grandchildren. - Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel, Lakeland.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Helen Martha Palmer of Lakeland died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1998) in Lakeland. She was 76. - Born in Sagamore, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1922, she moved to Lakeland from Pennsylvania in 1982. She was a physical therapist for Palmer and Associates Physical Therapy. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was an active member of the bereavement committee. - She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Palmer. She is survived by her son, Paul Davis Palmer, Winter Haven; daughter, Mary Anne Barnett, Lakeland; sister, Veronica Lapusnak, Pittsburgh; and seven grandchildren. - Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel, 5245 U.S. 98 N., Lakeland. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 118 W. Lemon, Lakeland.
