Ann Kormanik, born in 1930, was the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Kormanik, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Joseph came first, in 1923, and Teresa followed in 1929 with their two sons, Joseph and Charles. Son, Nick, was the first child born in America (New York), according to the 1930 census of German Twp., Fayette County, Pa.

Following her graduation from the school of nursing at St. Francis Hospital in August 1951, she earned a B. S. degree as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Ann stated in a telephone conversation on April 6, 2010 that she was born in 1930 and never married. She said the family lived in Gates, Fayette County, and she now lives in Masontown. Her parents are buried at Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Fayette County.
