While a student nurse, Ruth Jean Knobel participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. Her membership card indicates that her date of birth was December 16, 1926 and she lived in Pittsburgh. Her father was Robert Knobel, a Railroad car inspector.

The Pittsburgh Press, July 24, 1949 -- NEWLYWEDS MAKE HOME IN CHICAGO - At a June 18 service at St. Paul's Reformed Evangelical Church, Ruth Jean Knobel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knobel of Stanton Ave., became the bride of Donald O. Hicklin, of Chicago. - The bride's sister, Mrs. James Winning, was matron of honor, and another sistr, Mrs. Richard Garlack, and Miss Jerine Hallworth, were bridesmaids. James Winning was best man and ushers were Walter Homren and John Hicklin. The couple are at home in Chicago after a motor trip to Erie.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Donald O. Hicklin, 87, beloved husband of Ruth Jean Hicklin, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 8 (2006). Loving father to Mary Sue (Bob) Peterson, Donna Conroy, Rob (Pam) Hicklin, Beth (Ken) Funk; cherished grandfather of 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Don Hicklin was a devoted father, WWII veteran and avid golfer. Memorials to the Whitehall Evangelical Church Memorial Fund preferred. Memorial services will be held in late spring in Michigan.

Donald O. Hicklin is buried at Flower Creek Cemetery, Oceana County, Michigan.
