While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Sara Ruth King participated in the U. S., World War II, Cadet Nursing Corps.

"Ruth" married John Mohan following graduation. They had a son, Gregory John Mohan, on January 30, 1947. He died in a tragic accident on August 21, 1949.

OBITUARY: Valley Independent, July 28, 1971 - Mrs. Ruth Mohan, 47, of Box -- Monongahela RD 2 died suddenly yesterday at 11:45 a.m. at her residence. - She was born in Reynoldsville, Pa., a daughter of the late John E. and Grace Smith King. She had lived in Forward Twp. the past 23 years. - She was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Donora, and St. Marys Altar Society. - Surviving are her husband, John; two sons, Dennis E., and John P. (Jackie), both at home; two brothers, David King of Upper St. Clair and Curtis L. King of Brockway, Pa; and one sister, Mrs. Alice Mann of Brockway. - Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today at Paul Macik Funeral Home, Donora.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: John Mohan, 86, of Residence at the Hilltop, died Friday, August 13, 2010 in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 18, 1924 in Donora, the son of Abraham and Mary Mohan. John was a lifelong resident of Sunnyside (Forward Township) and a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Donora. He was a member of the Russian Brotherhood Organization and a World War II veteran having served in the US Army. He was employed at US Steel, Donora Works until its closing, and retired from the Bricklayers Union where he worked in the Pittsburgh area. He is survived by two sons: Dennis (Kathy) Mohan of Greensburg and Jack Mohan; four grandchildren, Ben (Allison) Mohan, Lenny (Abby) Mohan, Molly (Matthew) Kauffman, Sara Mohan; sister Ann Kapuska of Chicago, IL; dear friend Margaret Brewer of Daisytown, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, S. Ruth King Mohan; infant son Gregory; and three sisters, Rose Stazetski, Mary Bodnar andTheresa Minnick. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. A brief service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Donora, with the Rev. Igor Soroka, pastor as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with full military honors accorded at the grave by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard. A Parastas service will he held Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Donora.
