HELEN KELLNER GONGAWARE

Class of 1941

Helen Jane Kellner was born on February 26, 1920 at New Stanton, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Julius Kellner and Jennie K. Wisneski.

During World War II, from April 6, 1943 until March 23, 1946, Helen served in the Navy Nurse Corps. At the time she applied for Veteran Compensation in 1950, she was married to Paul H. Gongaware.

Paul Gongaware died in 1997. Helen died May 14, 2004 at Alexandria, Virginia. Their remains are at Saint Clair Cemetery, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Pleasant, Oct 1 -- Funeral mass for Julius Kellner, 81, of New Stanton, will be offered at 10 am tomorrow in Transfiguration Church here. - Mr. Kellner, who died on Monday in Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, owned and operated an auto and truck spring shop in Youngwood for many years. - He was a member of Transfiguration Church and the Youngwood Board of Trade and was secretary of the St. Joseph Union Lodge of Mammoth. - Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Kellner; six sons, Alex J., Michael and Ted, all of New Stanton, Arthur, of Morrisville, Edward, of Youngwood, and Joseph, of Jeannette; three daughters, Mrs. Cecilia Nasiatha, of New Stanton, Mrs. Helen Gongaware, of Greensburg, and Mrs. Evangeline Commerce, of Washington, and 21 grandchildren.... Burial in Transfiguration Cemetery.
