VERONICA "VERA" KAPCAR

Veronica A. Kapcar was born on April 15, 1923 in Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Andrew, born in Czechoslovakia, and Mary Oros/Orris, born in Pennsylvania.

In the 1930 and 1940 Federal Census records, the family lived in East Bethlehem, Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1930, Mr. Kapcar had a clothing store. In 1940, he was a restaurant owner. The children were Albert, Emil, Veronica, Andrew and Anna Mae.

While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Veronica Kapcar participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. She signed her name "Vera Kapcar" on her membership card.

Following graduation, Veronica served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps, from February 1, 1945 until July 1, 1946. When she applied for Veteran Compensation in 1950, she was a resident of Fredericktown, Washington, Pennsylvania.

In the 1950s, Veronica Kapcar is named in several news articles about school nurses in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1955, she was the president of the County School Nurses.

Veronica, also known as Vera, was living in Charleston, West Virginia when her father died in 1963.

Veronica A. Kapcar is listed in the 1982 City Directory of Pittsburgh as a resident of 956 Milton Street. This property was sold by "Vera aka Veronica Kapcar" in 2015.

OBITUARY: VERONICA A. "VERA" KAPCAR - On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, formerly of Regent Square. Sister of the late Albert, Emil, Andrew, Jr., and Anna Mae; survived by her loving numerous nieces and nephews. Vera retired as a Private Duty Registered Nurse and served in the U.S. Army during WWII on a hospital ship in Cherbourg, France. She spent her entire life serving, cooking, and caring for others. Friends received 9-10 a.m. MONDAY MORNING ONLY, at the St. James Roman Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Vera's memory to the charity of your choice.
