ANNA KANE

Class of 1911

Anna Kane served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War I, from October 15, 1917 until May 29, 1919. Her Pennsylvania Veterans' Burial Card spells her name as "Anna." It is "Ann" in the Social Security Death Index and the Veterans' Affairs Death File.

Born on November 13, 1986, she died July 24, 1976. She is buried at Allegheny Cemetery (Memorial Park), Allison Park. Her Social Security Card was issued in New York.

At the time of the 1940 census, Ann Kane, 52, born in Pennsylvania, was a nurse for a private family. She was a lodger at East 84th Street, New York.

It is likely that Anna Kane was born in Dunbar, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were probably John Kane, born in Ireland and Margaret Moran, born in West Virginia. The father died before 1910, at which time his wife, Margaret, lived in Dunbar with her brother, William Moran. In 1930 and 1940, Margaret Kane lived alone in Dunbar. She died in Pittsburgh on March 30, 1943.

Anna's sister, Mary Kane, married Thomas Isett in 1905. The marriage record indicates that Mary was born in Dunbar, Pennsylvania and resided in Duquesne at the time of the marriage. Mary died in 1972, at which time her obituary states that her sister, Ann Kane, was a resident of Washington, D. C.

Another sister, Margaret Kane, married Arthur Knepley in 1910. And a brother, John F. Kane, died in 1955; never married.

It is the children of Mary Kane Isett and Margaret Kane Knepley who are named in Ann(a) Kane's death notice.
