HILDA DOLORES JORDAN DEPP

Class of 1918

A news article in the Pittsburgh Press, dated June 5, 1918, names the graduates of the Class of 1918. This graduate is identified as Hilda D. Jordan. As the executor of the estate of her sister, Sabina Jordan, who died in 1970, Hilda's middle name is stated as Dolores.

Hilda Jordan, 3, born in January 1896, lived in Etna, Allegheny County with her parents, Joseph and Mary Jordan, at the time of the 1900 Federal Census. Hilda's siblings were Katie, 18, John, 15, Sabina, 13, Carrie, 10, and Joseph, 8. The father was born in Pennsylvania, and the mother in Kentucky.

The father, Joseph Jordan, a florist at Etna, age 48, died at home on March 29, 1905. In his death notice, his wife is named as Mary Krebs.

The 1910 Federal Census finds Hilda Jordan, 13, born in Pennsylvania, residing in Etna with her widowed mother, Mary, 50, born in Kentucky. Hilda's siblings named in the 1910 census were Sabina, 23, Carrie, 20, Joseph, 17, and Hilda, 13.

In the 1920 census, Hilda D. Jordan, RN, 22, hospital nurse, was a boarder at Friendship Avenue, Pittsburgh, along with two other nurses.

Hilda married William J. Depp. In 1930, they lived on Wilson Street, Etna, and Hilda, 32, was a Registered Nurse, employed at the Board of Public Education. William was a supervising clerk at a dry cleaners.

In 1940, the Depps lived on Mount Royal Bouldvard, Shaler Township, Allegheny County. William's father, William, Sr. lived with them.

From a list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses, 1940-1941, published by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners: "Hildegarde Jordan Depp, 1306 Mt. Royal Blvd., Etna."

She was a Millvale school nurse for 32 years and retired in 1959. Her husband died on September 11, 1973. She died February 15, 1982. They are buried at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
