Born in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1922, Aurelia Jane Hughes was the daughter of Leo H. Hughes, born in Pennsylvania, and Jane W. Beach, born in West Virginia.

Aurelia Hughes, 8, is found in the 1930 Federal Census of New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, with her parents, Leo H. and Jane B. Hughes, and her siblings, Keith, Elmer, Gertrude and Leo.

At the time of the 1940 census, Aurelia Hughes, 18, a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, lived at the Nurses' Residence. The record indicates that her home in 1935 was Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.

Following graduation, during World War II, Aurelia Jane Hughes served in the Army Nurse Corps, between September 1, 1943 and November 4, 1945. When she applied for Veteran Compensation in 1950, her name was Amelia Jane DeRidder, and she lived in Rochester, Pennsylvania.

John and Aurelia DeRidder are listed in the 1951 City Directory of Morristown, New Jersey.

Aurelia H. Deridder died on October 16, 1994, last residence Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. John Deridder died on March 5, 1998.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: John Charles DeRidder, 75, of 4001 Apollo Court, died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at his residence. - He was a native of Boston, Mass., a retired route salesman, a member of the Teamsters Union and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Aurelia Hughes DeRidder and the son of the late Marinus Gerald and Johanna VanDerpol DeRidder. - Survivors include a daughter, Linda J. Davis of the residence; two sons, Craig Allan DeRidder of Richmond and Scott John DeRidder of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Johanna Guerin of Leesburg, Fla., and Hendrina Gertrude Serrloula of New Hanover, N.J.; four brothers, William Arthur DeRidder of Petersburg, Tenn., Gerald DeRidder of Murrells, S.C., Henry DeRidder of Brandon, Fla., and Marinus DeRidder of Pennsalem, Pa.; and four grandchildren. - A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
