ELEANOR VIRGINIA GABLE SCHOEPFLIN

Class of 1917

Born in the Pittsburgh area in June 22, 1893, (August 1892 per 1900 census), Eleanor (also Eleanora) Virginia Gable was the daughter of Lewis/Louis Gable and Amelia V. Knost, both born in Pennsylvania. The mother, Amelia, died in 1898.

At the time of the 1900 Federal Census of Pittsburgh, Eleanor, 8, and her older siblings, George, William, Amelia and Laura, were residing in Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, with their maternal grandmother, Mary Knost, age 65.

This family is not found in census records (many families were "missed" 1910-1940).

Eleanor(a) Gable married Frank John Schoepflin. In the 1940 census, Eleanor was listed as a widow, as well as a lodger in a home in Shaler, Allegheny County. With her were her three children, William D., Virginia D. and JoAnn A. - A Frank J. Schoepflin was a resident of the Allegheny County Home for the Insane in 1940, so if this is Eleanor's husband, they were estranged, at least for a time.

Eleanor(a) Gable Schoepflin died in Pittsburgh on June 13, 1984. Frank J. Schoepflin died in 1961. A note on an online Message Board states that "Frank fell from the girders while building the Gulf Building in Pittsburgh and was in a nursing home until his death." They are buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Allegheny County.
