MARY ELEANOR FRANZ TRACEY

Class of 1941


Mary Eleanor Franz, born in Pittsburgh on May 8, 1919, was the daughter of George Franz, a Land Agent born in Pittsburgh, and Eleanor Stock, also born in Pittsburgh.

Based on the 1930 and 1940 Federal Census records, Mary's siblings were Rose, George, Paul, Eleanore, Lois and Teresa. In 1940, the family lived on Elton Avenue, Brentwood, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

On October 11, 1945, Mary Eleanor Franz married Herbert Charles Tracey in Brentwood. Herbert was serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army at the time. Herbert was born in Pittsburgh in 1916 and was 29 years old. Mary, a nurse, was 26.

The death of Herbert Tracey occurred in Brentwood on April 3, 2001.

SON'S OBITUARY: ROBERT T. TRACEY, Age 62, of Murfreesboro died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his home. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the son of Mary Tracey of Pittsburgh, Pa. and the late Hoke Tracey. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Tracey; daughter, Kris Mangus and her husband Darren of Philadelphia, Pa. ; sons Tim Tracey and his wife Dorothy of Chicago, Illinois, David Tracey and his wife Shannon of Knoxville, Tn.; sisters, Sue Tracey, Katie Markley, Nancy Mahoney; brother, Bill Tracey and five grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan, Jonathon, Tyler and Parker. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 am Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Mark Sappenfield officiating. Burial at 10 am Tuesday at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family was from 5-8 pm Sunday at WOODFIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mr. Tracey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be forever remembered by his family and friends. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam Conflict, a graduate of Robert Morris College, former member of the Murfreesboro Optimist Club where he was a coach for many years. He was a former employee of Verizon. Memorials in memory of Mr. Tracey may be made to Alive Hospice.
