OBITUARY: ELIZABETH A. "BETTY" FLOREK - Age 91, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Vincentian DeMarillac Assisted Living, Pittsburgh, PA. She was born November 5, 1923, in Smock, PA, daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Voytasek) Florek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Chontofasky; and a brother, Andrew Florek. Betty was a graduate of the Uniontown High School, class of 1940, St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1944, and graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor of science in nursing B.S.N., class of 1960. Betty was employed by VA Medical Center, Aspinwall/Oakland for 42 years as a registered nurse, before retiring on November 3, 1987. Betty was a member of St. Raphael Parish, Pittsburgh, PA. She volunteered as a reader for the blind at the Golden Triangle Radio Information Center. Betty was a member of the North Hills Organ Club, and member of the Women's Guild at St. Raphael Parish. Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, Audrey Genovese of Chagrin Falls, OH, Joyce Rehanek and husband, Jerry of Uniontown, PA, Anita Davis of St. Petersburg, FL, Deanne Ebbert and her late husband, Jack of Pittsburgh, PA, Raymond Chontofasky and wife, Nancy, of Ellwood City, PA, and Elaine Wiley and husband, Dennis, of Lorain, OH; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great- nieces and nephews. Any memorials may be made to St. Raphael Parish, Pittsburgh, PA or any charity of your choice . Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael Parish (Morningside), 1118 Chislett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, with Rev. Father Joseph Mele as celebrant. Interment will be privately held at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Smock, PA. -- Published in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from Feb. 15 to Feb. 16, 2015.
