AGNES ELIZABETH FITZGERALD BAKER

Agnes Elizabeth Fitzgerald, while a student nurse, participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. According to her membership card, she was born on December 7, 1923, and she resided in Rural Valley, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Her father's name is stated a Leason B. Fitzgerald, an oil checker.

At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, Leason and Estella Fitzgerald lived in Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania with daugther, Agnes ("Betty" in the 1930 census), and sons, Boyd, Leo, and Leland, the last two being twins.

The father, Leason Boyd Fitzgerald, 1894-1958, was born in McKeesport, Allegheny County. Agnes' mother, Mary Estella Smeltzer, 1892-1976, was born in Armstrong County.

Agnes Elizabeth "Betty" Fitzgerald married Ira Dean Baker (1925-1995).

OBITUARY: Agnes "Betty" Baker, 86, of Washington Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, in her residence. Born Dec. 7, 1923, in Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late Leason and Mary (Smeltzer) Fitzgerald and had lived in the Kiski Valley all of her life. She had been employed at the Vandergrift plant of Wean United as the plant nurse prior to her retirement in 1986, after 35 years service. Betty had attended First Lutheran Church, in Vandergrift. Survivors include a number of nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Dean Baker; and four brothers, James, Elonza, Leland and Leo Fitzgerald. Friends may call from 6 p.m. Friday until services at 8 p.m. in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
