HARRIET EILEEN FENNELL KUNKLE

Class of 1944

Harriet Eileen Fennell, born September 23, 1923 in Kittaning Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, was the daughter of Clifford C. Fennell and Rhoda W. Young, both born in Pennsylvania.

At the time of the 1930 Federal Census of Kittaning, Clifford Finnell, 41, a farmer, and his wife, Rhoda, 43, had the following children: Mildred, 20, Mabel, 18, Charles, 14, Margaret, 13, Veryl, 12, Blaine, 10, Harriet, 6, and Freeda, almost 4.

The father, named Charles Clifford Fennell on his death record, died on December 10, 1937, age 49. He "jumped or fell from barn. Fractured spine..." "Refused food and medication....."

Harriet Eileen Fennell served in the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps from June 13, 1945 until June 29, 1947. She separated at the U. S. Naval Hospital at San Diego, California.

In Ontario, San Bernardino, California, on November 22, 1950, Harriet Eileen Fennell, 27, married Robert Dean Kunkle, 34, son of John Ira Kunkle and Elsie Rupert, both born in Pennsylvania. Harriet had been residing in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, and her husband had lived in Ontario, San Bernardino.

Robert Dean Kunkle died on December 28, 1982 in Santa Clara County, California.
